Non-Discrimination Policy / Title VI

What is Title VI?

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a federal law that states that “[n]o person in the United States shall, on the grounds of race, color or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefit of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) is dedicated to promoting nondiscrimination in all of its facilities, programs, and services.

Title VI/Nondiscrimination Policy Statement

It is the policy of NWSA that no person shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination in the receipt of its services on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability/handicap, creed/religion, low income, Limited English Proficiency (LEP), or any other federally protected basis protected under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 or any other non-discrimination statutes that afford legal protection.

The NWSA's Title VI/Civil Rights Coordinator is the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Officer. The Title VI/Civil Rights Coordinator oversees the continued development and administration of the NWSA's Title VI/Nondiscrimination Program.

The Title VI/Nondiscrimination Program reflects an organization-wide commitment, and all department directors, managers, and employees share the responsibility of ensuring compliance. Efforts to prevent discrimination must address each program activity and service that impacts the community, the public, and entities that do business with the NWSA. Accordingly, each NWSA department must plan, develop, implement, and operate programs, services, and activities in compliance with this policy and the Title VI/Nondiscrimination Program.

Title VI Discrimination Complaints

Any person who believes that they have, individually or as a member of any specific class of persons, been subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, creed/religion, Limited English Proficiency (LEP), or any other federally protected basis, may file a complaint with the NWSA within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination. The Title VI Complaint Procedures are available from the Title VI/Civil Rights Coordinator by email, or by mailing a request to:
