All lanes of I-5 in both directions are currently closed after a tanker truck carrying butane gas rolled over near downtown Seattle Monday morning. Meanwhile, westbound I-90 at the Snoqualmie Pass Summit is closed due to an overturned logging truck.
The Washington State Department of Transportation has issued the following information:
- Both directions of I-5 near downtown Seattle are closed. The closure is due to an overturned tanker. Northbound traffic must exit at West Seattle/Columbian Way/Spokane Street. Southbound must exit at James Street. Westbound I-90 must exit at Rainier. Eastbound I-90 is closed at the stadiums. The tanker carrying butane, which is flammable. This is a long-term situation with no known reopening time. Drivers should avoid the area.
- Westbound I-90 at the Snoqualmie Pass summit (milepost 52) is closed. The closure is due to an overturned logging truck. There is not estimate for reopening. Drivers should use other routes to get westbound across the Cascades.
