The Washington Department of Agriculture today announced the final gypsy moth treatment might happen Monday for the Port of Tacoma (low elevations).
The treatment is weather-dependent. If the treatment occurs Monday, April 25, it will begin at approximately 5:45 a.m. and end by 8:30 a.m. Expect low flying aircraft.
Due to the uncertainty of the schedule, please contact the South Harbor’s marine terminals for their operations status:
- APM Terminals
- Husky Terminal
- Olympic Container Terminal
- Pierce County Terminal
- TOTE
- Washington United Terminals
The gypsy moth is a highly invasive threat to the environment, and several European and Asian gypsy moths were trapped in western Washington last year. WSDA is treating seven sites, including Tacoma, with a naturally-occurring biological insecticide to eradicate the gypsy moth. Each site must be treated at least three times. Treatments are weather-dependent and will continue through mid-May.
