NWSA TEU Volumes Up 26.3% in June

Auto Units Up 8.6% YTD

Voyage consistency, increased vessel calls, and low import rail dwells continue to support strong container volumes in the gateway. Full international exports continued a ten-month growth streak, increasing 12.6% over June 2023. Full international imports increased 42.5%, and total international volumes increased 32.5%. June container volumes reached 321,432 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), growing 26.3% over June 2023.

Year-to-date, volumes are up 11.5% to 1,557,762 TEUs over last year, with full imports increasing 18% and full exports growing 15.5%.

Thanks to the efforts of Senator Murray, Seattle ($25M) and Tacoma ($28M) secured a historic level of funding from the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund. This is the culmination of more than ten years of hard work led by the senator to reform the Harbor Maintenace Tax.

Domestic container volume is up 3.4% YTD 2024 compared to YTD 2023. Alaska volumes increased 5.7%, and Hawaii volumes decreased 7.1%. 

Other cargo stats:

  • Total breakbulk volume increased 2.1% for 243,569 metric tons YTD.
  • Auto volumes were 174,352 units, up 8.6% YTD.
