<p>Matson announced Tuesday that it will partner with SSA Terminals for stevedoring and terminal services at The Northwest Seaport Alliance Tacoma terminal when its existing agreement with APM Terminals expires Dec. 31.</p>
<p>The Tacoma terminal is the only Matson terminal on the West Coast not already managed by SSA Terminals.</p>

<p>In 2016, The Northwest Seaport Alliance handled 3,615,752 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) for the year, an increase of more than 2 percent from 2015 volumes.</p>
<p>Full imports for the year were up 6 percent to 1,391,590 TEUs and full exports increased 13 percent to 984,274 TEUs.</p>
<p>Domestic volumes saw a slight dip in 2016 as Alaska struggled with a decline in oil- and gas-related project activity due to low commodity prices. Domestic volumes decreased 1.5 percent for the year.</p>

<p>The Northwest Seaport Alliance is expected to unload more than 4,800 vehicles off the Glovis Composer auto ship upon its Jan. 9 arrival. The roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) ship from Korea will berth at Terminal 7 in Tacoma.</p>

<p>November’s laden import and export volumes recorded their strongest for the month over the last five years. Full imports and exports for November reflect a continued solid peak season at The Northwest Seaport Alliance, with 28 percent and 23 percent increases, respectively, compared with November 2015. The NWSA had four more international vessel calls in November than October and three more than in last November.</p>

<p>The Northwest Seaport Alliance will hold a special public meeting Monday, Dec. 19, to take action on a proposed interim use of Terminal 5 in the North Harbor. Alliance staff is seeking approval to join Foss Maritime in an effort to secure a contract to berth the USNS Bob Hope vessel.</p>
